Melissa Crystal O'Neil (born July 12, 1988[1]) is a Canadian actress and singer. In 2005, O'Neil won the third season of Canadian Idol, the first Canadian female to have won. In her role as an actress, she is famous for her performances as Two or Rebecca and Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was highly praised by the judges, she experienced major setbacks in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, as she was voted in the bottom three and the bottom two in both the bottom three and bottom two. Disappointed, the judges urged viewers to vote for contestants such as Melissa who clearly had the greatest vocal talent. O'Neil was praised for her performances and she did not drop back to the third place. Zack Werner declared that O'Neil was "a threat" to win the whole contest. The 7th of September, 2005 O'Neil made it to the final two contestants of the contest, along with Goudie. Following many more spectacular performances, judge Werner famously said that the headlines of the next day's news would read "The King, Kalan Porter is dead and the Queen will live forever." O'Neil defeated Goudie in the final results shows on September 14, 2005 . He went on to be crowned the third Canadian Idol.
