After being admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time, Ford decided that it was not the right location for her. Ford made an application to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered an interview on her fourth try. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared in TV programmes such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning during the Nineties. Her regular work in theatre has led to her joining the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. But Tate soon began to garner recognition for her stand-up comedic performances and added stand-up comedy to her show in 1996.
